During Advent, Third class decided to try to help those in our world less fortunate than ourselves. Inspired by the Christian Aid Christimas stocking idea, the children came up with ideas for raising money within the class. They compiled a book of short stories with contibutions from everyone in the class which were then sold very successfully. They organsied a wonderful cake sale with magnificent home made cakes, biscuits and meringues. To encourage us to be responsible and organised, a fine was suggested if anyone forgot a particular homework copy or book – just a 10 cent fine! – and the overall result of everyone’s effort was €257 being raised!
We also wrote and used prayers to help us focus on the people in need as we learnt about different situations throughout the world. We integrated our S.E.S.E. topics and had fun playing the Climate Change game too. We have been able to purchase a tubewell for Bangladesh and basket balls for children in Burundi.
Congratulations third class and many thanks to you and your parents for all the hard work and support.
