Third class made a magazine for charity. We put puzzles and crosswords in it as well as recipes and gardening tips. I put an article in  it about football and factfiles. So far we have made nearly 100 euro for overseas development. It was on sale after World Book Day.  We hope to have a second issue of the magazine after Easter.

Today (9th February) Matt Cooper came in to talk about his new book Who Runs Ireland? He told us what he had to do for six months! Like wake up at six o’clock in the morning and write for a few hours the same at night. He asked us questions about books and what our favourite books are.

We wrote a book and drew our own drawings and wrote about the author or a dedication to our mum or dad and maybe a brother or sister.

KATE.

Write a book is good to get your mind with wonderful ideas. It is like you are a mini author when you finish your book it feels good you don’t have to be good at anything to write a book it is fun to write a book. It does not matter if you do not win it is about taking part it was nice the way you could dedicate. I loved writing my book it was really fun to write it I would love to do it over and over it was that fun you could express your mind. My book was called “The one who survived” probably everybody has a good book.

ESME.

It was fun to do the books it took a lot of effort and hard work but it was worth it in the end. When you see your result you are VERY proud of what you did. My book is called

“Mimi’ s adventure” because it is a true story about my cat when she was little but you will have to read to find out.

On Friday 29th January, third class led an assembly on the theme of helping others. This came at the end of a week when almost €1000 was raised for the people of Haiti. The money raised had been an initiative by third and fifth class pupils and included cake sales, a quiz, “ice the bun” and selling of bracelets.

Third class used the Parable of the Good Samaritan as the Bible theme for the assembly which included prayers, hymns and a K.P.S. interpretation of the Biblical theme. We were particularly pleased to welcome Canon McEndoo to our assembly who spoke to the children and closed in prayer. The pupils had prepared media reports on the earthquake in Haiti as aids to our thoughts.

Well done third class and thanks to everyone for supporting the fund raising.
