Santry Sports 2010!!

This is the fourth year for K.P.S. to compete in the Santry School Sports. We had children from third to sixth representing the school in the track and field events. We had two very successful days of competition with a final tally of 12 medals. To all the qualifiers, to all the medal winners and to all 102 pupils who participated at qualifying stage congratulations and well done. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Well done to the KPS Tennis Teams – This year they again participated in the Primary School’s League. The boys team made it to the semi-final – great playing guys! The girls team won their tournament – a first for KPS in this league. We are now the holders of another shiny trophy! Well done to you all and thanks to all who helped organise the events.

Senior Infants visit the National Leprechaun Museum!

Senior Infants had a fantastic day visiting the Leprechaun Museum. It was a real adventure getting the bus into town. They went through magic tunnels – heard amazing stories about Leprechauns that have been spotted around Ireland and then even got to sneak into a the Giant’s home and sit on his furniture!! Thank you to all the Mums who helped out on the day.

Visit by Alice Leahy of TRUST to K.P.S.

Alice Leahy came to the school on the 30^th of April to talk about what she does at work in Trust .The PTA gave 1,000 euro to Trust from the Christmas fair. They give them flowers and fish in water bowls they give them fairy cakes. Trust works with homeless people in Dublin. We hope to see Alice in our school again soon!

3rd Class: Write-a-Book Project

Congratulations to Cormac Dee Brown, Molly Donovan and Siofra O’Brien who recieved Highly Commended awards in the recent Write-a-Book Project in Third Class. Well done to everyone. The books have now been returned to school and all pupils were presented with a certificate from Blackrock Education Centre for their participation and achievment.

Respect for children as a global ideal has been affirmed by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child on 20 November 1989 and it entered into force – or became legally binding on States Parties – in September 1990. 3rd Class: Visit to The Mill Theatre

On Thursday 15th April Third Class went by Luas to The Mill Theatre , Dundrum to see a new play “Light Signals” by Paul Meade. It was an exciting morning for us all and here are a few reviews from the pupils.

There are four people two Johns one Jennifer and a mum (the dad is dead).there is a cat Called frailly. The cat is very vicious he bites everyone except John and John . Jennifer and John try to invent a time machine but they have lost a piece and they have to find it… By Adam Vaughan 22/4/10.

Write-a-book Project

On Monday 19th April Aimee Cooper was presented with her merit award in Kiliney Castle hotel for her first book “Caution!” . This was a very special occasion for Aimee and she represented our class superbly. Congratulations Aimee and well done to all Third class for participating in this project which celebrates 25 years this year. We look forward to having all the books on display in May.

Another quiet day in KPS!

Well folks you may have heard that Jedward came to our school yesterday! The big secret could finally be let out at about 10.30. The famous twins were here to launch a writing initiative which raises money for Barnardos. There was such excitement in the school – the pupils were a credit to the staff and their parents. Their behaviour was exemplary- as for Jedward ……they were not so good! You can catch the clips on the RTE website – and we’ll try and put the video up here as soon as possible.

School Evaluation Report now published!

The much anticipated Whole School Evaluation Report has now been finalised and has been published on the Dept. of Education website. The final report makes for a great read – indeed it is a credit to the dedicated and hardworking staff. It is great to see our school’s strengths being recognised and praised. It’s a pity the Dept won’t use the word excellent in their school evaluations – it seems the best you can get is a very good. At least we got a whole load of those!!

Fifth Class visit the Dáil!

On Wednesday 3rd March – Fifth Class visited Dáil Eireann. We went on a very interesting tour of Leinster House. We were luck to spend some time in the publuc gallery watching the goings on in the Dáil chamber. We watched on the edged of our seats as Brian Cowen and Enda Kenny had another very heated discussion. It really was an interesting day!!
