In April 1st and 2nd class took a trip into town to visit Trinity College and the National Art Gallery. We got a bus to College Green and after singing ‘Molly Malone’, got to see the statue for ourselves. We then visited Trinity College. We got a tour of the Long Room Library and got to see the people cleaning all the books. We have been studying the Book of Kells in class and we were lucky enough to see the famous page depicting St. John. After we had lunch on the green and then proceeded to the National Art Gallery. We had a tour around the gallery and looked at and discussed by Picasso, Monet, Yeats and many more. Altogether we had a brilliant and busy day.

Rebecca’s Dad, Ardal came to talk to us about his work as a comedian and TV – he was in “Father Ted”. He told us that he started off as a comedian and his first role on TV was in “Father Ted”. He made us laugh by telling us about some of the funny stunts he had to do! For example the time he was tied behind a tractor and dragged through a muddy field! Or the day when they let out loads of rabbits on “the set” and they started messing up all over the place! In “My Hero” he had to be tied to ropes attached to the ceiling! – That wasn’t very comfy! In “Dr. Who” he had to have his face covered with glue to stick on fur for the cat’s face!

Ardal then explained to us that the life of an actor isn’t all fun. There are lots and lots of words to learn and you have to have a really good memory! His family are very good at helping him to learn his words by reading the other parts in the script.
Also, he said that there are many times when you haven’t a job so there’s a lot of waiting for the phone to ring…But all in all he wouldn’t change his job for anything else!

Graham Brislane came to visit 2nd class on Friday 7th April. He is a wood-turner. He brought in loads of wood from trees. He passed around lots of different types of wood. It was really interesting. He showed us his machine called a ‘lathe’ and made us a spinning top. It was really cool watching him make it. Lots of wood chippings fell on the ground. When he cuts down a tree he plants another tree in the same place. It was fun and we enjoyed his visit. By Rebecca and Sarah

Thursday 6th March was World Book Day around the world. 1st and 2nd class were very lucky to be invited to Dubray Books in Rathmines to meet the author Karl O’Neill.

We left the schoool at 9.30 and walked down to Dubray books. We met Karl and he told us how he came up with the idea for his book. He then read his new book called “The most beautiful letter in the world.” It was fantastic as he read it with voices and actions. We then got to ask him questions about his story and his acting career. We had a great time and it was so exciting to met a real life author!!!
