In April 1st and 2nd class took a trip into town to visit Trinity College and the National Art Gallery. We got a bus to College Green and after singing ‘Molly Malone’, got to see the statue for ourselves. We then visited Trinity College. We got a tour of the Long Room Library and got to see the people cleaning all the books. We have been studying the Book of Kells in class and we were lucky enough to see the famous page depicting St. John. After we had lunch on the green and then proceeded to the National Art Gallery. We had a tour around the gallery and looked at and discussed by Picasso, Monet, Yeats and many more. Altogether we had a brilliant and busy day.

Before Easter 1st Class read a book called “The Rickety Barn Show” in English class. It was about a group of farm animals that put on a talent show. It inspired our class to put on a talent show of our own. We designed invitations on the computers; we designed programmes and posters in Art and practiced our talents in Drama. On Friday 7th March our parents came and watched our talents. We sang songs, read stories, performed plays, danced and showed our sports skills. We all had great fun.

Thursday 6th March was World Book Day around the world. 1st and 2nd class were very lucky to be invited to Dubray Books in Rathmines to meet the author Karl O’Neill.

We left the schoool at 9.30 and walked down to Dubray books. We met Karl and he told us how he came up with the idea for his book. He then read his new book called “The most beautiful letter in the world.” It was fantastic as he read it with voices and actions. We then got to ask him questions about his story and his acting career. We had a great time and it was so exciting to met a real life author!!!

On Friday 16th Febraury first class went on a class trip to Airfield. With the help of our parents we left the school at 9.30 by car. When we reached Airfield we parked the cars. Then we went into the classroom and we met Michael and Joyce. We learnt about the fox, badger and lots of different birds with Michael and Joyce. We learnt the rules of Airfield and then it was time to go on an adventure. We started by going for a walk where we met hens, japanese hens, ducks, ponies, pigs, goats, cows, sheep and donkeys called Smokey Joe and Michael. We saw some eggs the hens had just laid. They were a bit smelly!!! We heard stories of how the bull escaped. Lucky for us he was nowhere in sight this day!!!

We climbed on the haystacks and we tried to push a big rock over. If we did push it over, Michael and Joyce were going to bring us to Eddie Rockets. Unfortunately Oisin of Tir na nOg was nowhere in sight, so we had to do with our sandwiches.

We saw old-fashioned cars and some of the class got to pretend they were the donkeys pulling the old carriage. We got to milk a cow for Ms. Lawrence’s tea but unfortunately it was water. We got to feed the goats, geese, hens, donkeys, horses and pigs.

We all had a brilliant and fun time. We were exhausted when we got back to class at 2.20 but we can’t wait to go back again!!!
